Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption authority on Tuesday launched a centralized electronic system for the submission of asset and liability declarations.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said that with the system becoming operational from March 31, public officials and other individuals required by law to disclose their financial interests must now use the electronic system to file declarations.
Authorities stated that the move is in line with the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, which provides for the establishment of a centralized database to manage asset and liability declarations and strengthen transparency and oversight.
Sri Lanka’s asset declaration requirements originate from the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law No. 1 of 1975, later amended by Act No. 74 of 1988, which identifies categories of individuals obligated to declare their assets. The Anti-Corruption Act of 2023 further expands the scope by introducing additional categories of officials subject to disclosure requirements.
CIABOC noted that detailed guidelines on the submission process, along with the revised declaration forms, are available on its official website. These materials have been accessible since March 1, 2024. Xinhua
