काठमाडौं ।
Huawei has officially unveiled the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN, the latest addition to its tri-fold smartphone lineup. Announced on September 7, the device is the first smartphone to feature the LogicFolding Tau (τ) chip, marking the chip’s entry into mass commercial production.
The Mate XT 2 introduces a wing-like tri-fold design that opens from both sides, offering a new unfolding experience. Inspired by Chinese aesthetics, the rear panel features a cloud pattern created using Brocade Cloud craftsmanship. The phone is available in Purple, White and Black.
The camera ring continues Huawei’s Star Diamond Glow design and is made using Yttrium Crystal fired at 1,800°C. The component undergoes eight stages of polishing to create 33 star-diamond facets, giving it a gemstone-like appearance.
The device features Huawei’s Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, which redesigns the hinge and screen structure for additional protection. Huawei says it is the first tri-fold smartphone to support IP58/59 dust and water resistance.
The cover display uses Xuanwu Kunlun Glass, designed to resist everyday scratches and impacts. It also features anti-glare technology for improved visibility under direct sunlight. The main display uses a multi-layer structure combining large UTG glass, aerospace-grade ultra-thin high-strength steel and a carbon-fiber support layer.
The Mate XT 2 is powered by the new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. Huawei says collaboration across hardware, software, chips and cloud has improved overall device performance by 42% compared with the previous generation.
The LinxiCore CPU and HUAWEI Ark Engine are designed to improve large-file loading and multitasking performance. The Maleoon GPU features twice the computing units and cache, while gaming performance supports hardware-level real-time ray tracing at 50 MRPS.
The device also includes a Da Vinci Architecture NPU for on-device AI computing. Huawei says the phone is the first in the industry to natively support the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE large language model, enabling features such as on-device AI album management through Celia.
For thermal management, Huawei has distributed heat sources across three frames and combined large vapor chambers with highly thermally conductive graphene materials. The phone also uses 32 distributed antennas and supports Tiantong satellite communications and Beidou satellite messaging.
As per the company claims, Huawei has introduced the Smart Shield Privacy Screen, which it describes as the industry’s first foldable privacy screen offering hardware-level privacy protection. An independent dual-pixel design maintains screen resolution before and after privacy mode is activated. The system can also provide privacy reminders when users enter locations such as airports or train stations.
The Mate XT 2 also includes ECG analysis software and has obtained an NMPA Class II Medical Device Registration Certificate, according to Huawei.
On the camera side, the smartphone introduces True-to-Color Camera 3.0, which is designed to reduce infrared-light interference. Huawei claims that color reproduction has improved by 95% compared with the previous generation.
The camera system includes an ultra-HDR main camera, an ultra-wide-aperture periscope telephoto camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera. Video recording supports an ultra-high dynamic range of up to 18 EV.
The upgraded XMAGE SmartCapture system can recognize people, scenery and food scenes and provide real-time AIGC previews with composition and lighting recommendations. The tri-fold design also enables a desk-calendar shooting mode for selfies and group photographs.
The smartphone runs on HarmonyOS 7 and introduces a large-screen Live-Multitask feature that allows three windows to be displayed in parallel. Users can adjust window sizes and control the volume of each window independently.
The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN starts at RMB 19,999. It will be sold with a stylus set, with official sales scheduled to begin at 10:08 a.m. on September 12.
