World AI Alliance launches on 70th anniversary of Artificial Intelligence

काठमाडौं ।

On the historic 70th anniversary of the birth of Artificial Intelligence, global leaders, innovators, and policymakers came together for the official launch of the World AI Alliance (WAA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring AI development is ethical, inclusive, and empowering.

The event was opened by Ujjwal Roy, President of WAA, who declared, “AI is no longer just a tool, it’s a platform as revolutionary as fire or electricity. It has the potential to reshape our world far beyond the software, cloud, and telecom revolutions.

The World AI Alliance exists to ensure that AI is not just powerful, but ethical; not just advanced, but inclusive; not just profitable, but empowering.”

Roy emphasized that WAA is about collaboration across borders and generations, ensuring AI benefits everyone, not just a select few.

Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister of IT, Communications & Technology, Government of Nepal, and Advisor to WAA, highlighted Nepal’s role as one of the first nations in Southeast Asia to both draft and implement a national AI policy, positioning the country as a leader in ethical AI adoption.

Suyog Parajuli, Secretary General of WAA, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the Alliance’s mission to bring together innovators, policymakers, and educators to shape an AI-driven future that serves humanity.

We envision a future where AI is accessible, transparent, and fair, from Silicon Valley to the most remote parts of the world,” Parajuli, General Secretary of WAA added  “The World AI Alliance will be the bridge between innovation and ethics.

Chris Salisbury, Head of North America Partnerships at Rossum AI and Advisor to WAA, called the Alliance a “lighthouse standard” in guiding the future of innovation, “The World AI Alliance can ensure that as AI advances at unprecedented speed, there’s an ethical foundation in place, so everyone, regardless of age, location, or resources, can benefit from this revolution.”

Khagendra GC, Founder of Chetry Law and a Lifetime Achievement Awardee in the U.S., stressed the importance of legal and ethical frameworks in AI to protect global societies from misuse while enabling innovation.

Mark Jaffe, President of the New York Chamber of Commerce and Advisor to WAA, underscored the economic transformation AI will bring, urging businesses and governments to prepare for new global standards in AI-driven commerce.

Tom Stucki, Founder & CEO of Fuel AI, emphasized the need for cross-border collaboration to prevent fragmented approaches to AI development and regulation.

Dr. Shaligram Parajuli, Senior Advisor to the Government of Nepal and WAA Advisor, reflected on the transformative opportunity for emerging nations to leapfrog into leadership roles by embracing responsible AI.

Chris Eckman, Senior AI Computer Scientist at Lineage Logistics, shared insights on AI’s role in industrial transformation, particularly in logistics, where intelligent automation is rapidly reshaping efficiency and productivity.

Melvine Ralph Manchau, Founder & CEO of Broadwalk AI, inspired the audience with his vision of AI as a unifying force, urging technologists and policymakers to ensure AI bridges gaps between communities instead of widening them.

Finally, Chiranjeevi Adhikari, Senior Executive at the Computer Association of Nepal, congratulated WAA’s formation as a new chapter of global cooperation in AI, noting Nepal’s IT sector’s growing contribution to GDP through technology innovation   .

The event concluded with President Ujjwal Roy’s announcement that August 31 will now be celebrated annually as “Global AI Day” under the leadership of the World AI Alliance. Partnerships with major technology companies are already underway to support this vision.

“This is not just about one company or one country. This is about uniting global minds to shape the future of AI together,” Roy affirmed.
