AI Association Nepal has been established to promote inclusive, transparent, and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the country. Formed through a joint initiative of AI experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers, the association has elected Shailendra Raj Giri, founder of MeroJob, as its president.
The association aims to drive AI research, innovation, and collaboration to address Nepal’s diverse challenges, with a particular focus on sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and public services. By leveraging AI effectively, the organization seeks to develop innovative solutions tailored to Nepal’s needs.
At a stakeholder consultation event held in Kathmandu, President Giri outlined the association’s objectives and upcoming initiatives. He stated that the association plans to support AI-related education and industry projects, promote research and development, and conduct training programs, workshops, and skill-building initiatives.
Speaking at the event, General Secretary and legal expert Advocate Santosh Sigdel analyzed the draft AI policy recently introduced by the Government of Nepal. He emphasized the importance of basing the policy on ethical and inclusive AI practices, ensuring that it serves the broader interests of society.
During the event, AI Association Nepal announced plans to engage in policy discussions, launch an AI research grant program, and establish an open-source AI resource center. The association also called on researchers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to collaborate in fostering the development of inclusive, transparent, and responsible AI technology in Nepal.
