काठमाडौं ।

TikTok today announced the launch of its Election Centre in Nepal, an in-app hub designed to help users access accurate, reliable, and authoritative information ahead of the country’s upcoming General Election.

The in-app Election Centre builds on TikTok’s election integrity efforts across more than 200 elections globally since 2020 and reflects the company’s broader commitment to connecting users with trusted information while removing harmful content from the platform.

As part of this initiative, TikTok has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission, Nepal (ECN) to support election integrity efforts in the country.

Furthermore, TikTok conducted a capacity building Election Integrity Workshop at the ECN premises focusing on promoting responsible digital engagement, combating misinformation, and strengthening understanding of election integrity among key stakeholders.

The in-app Election Centre is developed in partnership with the ECN to make it easier for people to find official and trustworthy election-related information in one place.

The hub provides an overview of Nepal’s electoral process, information on how and where to vote, tips on identifying misinformation, and direct links to official resources from the ECN. TikTok will also apply election tags to relevant content and selected searches, linking users directly to the Election Centre.

“Elections are a critical moment for any democracy, and TikTok recognizes its responsibility as a platform that helps shape public discourse. Through this partnership, we aim to support informed participation, promote peace, and provide a safe space for positive digital expression.

The Election Centre is designed to help ensure that people in Nepal can access authoritative voting information where they already are.” said Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, South Asia at TikTok.

The launch forms part of TikTok’s broader efforts to provide users with important context about content and accounts on the platform. TikTok enforces firm policies against harmful misinformation and deceptive behavior, supported by advanced moderation technologies and thousands of safety professionals worldwide, including a dedicated Elections Taskforce for Nepal.

Under these policies, harmful misinformation is prohibited. Unverified content may be labeled, made ineligible for recommendation, or users may be prompted to reconsider before sharing it. TikTok also works with more than 20 global fact-checking organizations to assess content accuracy and help apply policies effectively.

TikTok remains vigilant against attempts to undermine authentic interactions on the platform. The company prohibits covert influence operations, impersonation, and artificial engagement such as bot networks, and reports enforcement actions against such behaviors each month through its Transparency Centre.

To further protect users, TikTok requires creators to label realistic AI-generated content (AIGC) and has adopted AI labeling tools and technologies, including C2PA Content Credentials, which enable the identification of AI-generated content created on other platforms. Harmful AI-generated content is not permitted on TikTok, even if labeled, including content that falsely depicts public figures making endorsements or being harassed or bullied.

As per the company claims, TikTok will continue to publish updates on its election integrity efforts in the lead-up to the General Election through its Global Election Integrity Hub.
