The Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN), in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with support from Kathmandu Engineering College[KEC], successfully hosted the “Robotics for Good Youth Challenge – Nepal National Event”, uniting young innovators from across the country to develop robotics and AI-driven solutions for humanitarian challenges.
Held at Kathmandu Engineering College, Kalimati, Kathmandu this event serves as Nepal’s national qualifier in senior categories for the prestigious AI for Good Global Summit 2025 in Geneva. The event was support by Xavier’s Academy, United School, United Academy Group, Global Reach and Shivashakti Edu-Tech Mart.
Omkar Jaiswal, Secretary of RAN emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration across government, academia, and civil society to build a robust AI and robotics ecosystem in Nepal. He highlighted outcomes from the recent National AI Conference.
In his keynote speech, Prithvi Subba Gurung expressed gratitude to RAN for convening such a transformative youth-led initiative. He underscored the vital role of events like these in fostering a culture of innovation and emphasized the need to invest seriously in Nepal’s tech infrastructure.
Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST), drew a parallel with how climate change has long been a topic of national and global concern. In a similar way, he stressed that we now need to think about how AI can contribute to national development.
Likewise Dr. Rabindra Prasad Dhakal, Secretary of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology
(NAST), reflected on his earlier days as a researcher at NAST and shared the journey of how the National Innovation Digital Network (NIDN) was initiated in collaboration with RAN.
Other speakers of yhe program were Prof.Dr. Sushil Bajracharya, Prof. Timila Yami, Advisor Shree Gurung of the Robotics Association of Nepal, Prof. Hirendra Man Pradhan, Chairman of Kathmandu Engineering College and the likes.
(Grades 4 to 10) was successfully held on May 28 at United School, Lalitpur. A total of 17 teams from across Nepal participated in this level. The participating teams presented diverse and innovative projects, showcasing how AI and robotics can be used for social good.
From the Junior Level, students from the winning team, first runner-up, and second runner-up teams were selected through an interview process. These students will represent Nepal at the “AI for Good Global Summit 2025” to be held in Geneva on July 9.
They will compete internationally with participants from over 60 countries and will have the opportunity to interact with global experts and policymakers.
Finalists from the Nepal event will move on to represent the country at the AI for Good Global Summit 2025 in Geneva.
