काठमाडौं ।
The internet is a powerful tool that connects us globally, yet it requires responsible usage. It has revolutionized the way we communicate, learn, and interact.
However, with its immense power comes the responsibility to use it wisely. To ensure a positive and safe online experience, it is essential to adopt responsible online behavior.
One of the fundamental principles of online safety is to safeguard personal information. We must avoid sharing sensitive details such as home addresses, phone numbers, or financial information on public platforms. Before posting any content, we must consider its potential impact and the privacy implications.
In today’s information-rich world, it is essential to cultivate critical thinking skills. Before accepting information at face value, it is important to verify it from multiple credible sources. Be aware of the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation online and use reliable fact-checking websites to assess the credibility of information.
The internet should be a space of respect and kindness, and we must treat each other with empathy and avoid engaging in cyberbullying or online harassment. It is our responsibility to report it to the appropriate authorities if we witness such behavior.
As children increasingly access the internet, parental guidance becomes crucial. It is vital that parents set time limits, use parental control tools to filter harmful content, and monitor their online activities. Open and honest communication with children about online safety is essential to support responsible digital citizenship.
Following Nepal’s Directive on Social Networks is essential. Respect cultural values, privacy, and national security. By doing so, we contribute to a safe and responsible online community. In Nepal, significant efforts are being made to enhance digital safety.
The recent Digital Safety Summit Nepal brought together key stakeholders from MoCIT and TikTok to discuss and promote safe internet practices. Additionally, partnership with ChildSafeNet aims to protect children from online threats by providing resources, guidance, and tools for parents, educators, and children themselves to navigate the internet responsibly.
Through these initiatives, the Nepal Government, in collaboration with TikTok is actively working toward creating a safer digital environment for all users, particularly for the younger generation.
To create a safer digital future, it is important to educate ourselves about online threats and best practices. Be mindful of your online behavior, treat others with respect, and report any instances of online harassment or cyberbullying. By collectively embracing these principles, we can promote and also support a positive and secure online environment for everyone.
